What hours can I reach the Poison Center?
- This toll-free number will connect you to the nearest poison center 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
- First, get the poison away from your child.
- If there is still some in their mouth, make him/her spit it out or remove it with your fingers.
- Keep whatever it was they swallowed to help you identify the material with the poison control.
- Do not make your child vomit.
- If your child is unconscious, not breathing, having convulsions, call 911 immediately. Do not wait to call poison control, this is a medical emergency!
- If your child does not have those symptoms, call the Poison Control toll free number.
- Be prepared to give the following information:
- Your name and phone number
- Your child's name, age and weight.
- Any medical conditions your child has.
- Any medication being taken.
- The name of the material your child has taken(read off the container).
- The time the item was swallowed(or when your child was found) and the amount you think was swallowed.
